A Conversation about Girls
In May of 1990, Valentine Foundation and Womens Way sponsored a gathering of researchers, funders and advocates for a Conversation About Girls' Development. The impetus for this event was the sense the many funders lack the opportunities to hear researchers and advocates talk about the very real unmet needs of girls, especially low income girls, and that researchers and funders alike would welcome the chance to exchange information and share concerns. The result was a day of lively passionate discussion, infused with a sense of urgency about young women who are called upon to spend their adolescence coping with survival at the expense of growth into mature adulthood.
